LOS ANGELES, May 27, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Legendary Eagles lead guitarist, lyricist and singer Joe Walsh, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict who is considered to be among the most articulate and ardent voices on the topics of drug addiction and alcoholism, will be heard in a rare live interview Saturday as part of the new Recovery Radio Show's weekly call-in radio program.
Distributed by the ABC Satellite Network, Recovery Radio can be heard every Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Pacific Daylight Time) in Los Angeles on KKLA-FM (99.5), in Phoenix on KNFX-AM (1100), and in Las Vegas on KNUU-AM (970). The program also is available on the Internet. Walsh will be interviewed by co-host John Tomkinson during the program's first hour.
On the eve of its eighth broadcast week, executives at the Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based radio broadcast company also have announced that the program will be expanded to three hours.
"We are excited to have such a legend as Walsh on the air with us because it really goes to the heart of what we are trying to accomplish with this program," said Tomkinson. "When we took Joe's call a couple of weeks ago on the air while he was driving, it was just so exciting to our audience that we thought we have to have him back for a longer interview. And, because he is such a sensible and sensitive voice on the topic, we invited him to share his personal experience with our listeners."
Walsh, who like the show's co-hosts, founders and staff members is a recovering addict or alcoholic or both, was among the callers who phoned the program two weeks ago during its sixth broadcast week to congratulate the hosts on their vision and for getting the show on the air. His personal story of how he has battled addiction and alcoholism proved so compelling that he was invited to appear on the show for a much fuller interview this week.
Bob Munck, the program's co-host and co-founder, will join Tomkinson and Walsh for the interview. Munck has been sober for 14 years. The third co-host, Dr. Stephen J. Groth M.D., a Harvard-educated and board-certified emergency medicine physician who also is a recovering addict, will be on hand during the show for his regular Medical Files segments, which air in both hours. For 14 years, Groth was the head of emergency and trauma care at a busy urban medical center near Los Angeles.
