Buffalo Technology Advances Wireless Networking With Its New High Speed 'Smart' Router

The New Router Offers Fresh, Innovative Features, Improved Performance and Range and a Sleek New Design

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 15, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage and memory solutions today announced its new "smart" router. The Buffalo AirStation(tm) 125 High Speed Mode(tm) Wireless Cable/DSL Smart Router (WHR-G54S) is designed to offer increased performance and range while simplifying the installation process.

Buffalo's new high-speed "smart" router includes new, innovative features such as an external switch, which easily allows the product to change from a router to a bridge. Router Mode shares a cable or DSL connection with multiple wired or wireless devices while Bridge Access Point Mode quickly adds wireless access to your existing LAN. The new Automatic Router Configuration function simplifies the installation process by automatically detecting and configuring the Internet connection. Just plug in your modem and open your browser.

Buffalo also re-designed the chassis for the new router, which allows the product to be positioned horizontally or vertically. The new design also features an external antenna. The recently announced AirStation(tm) G54 High Power Wireless Cable/DSL Smart Router (WHR-HP-G54) also features the new chassis.

"Wireless users are becoming more selective about the products and features they need. They are looking for something that offers the most bang for their buck," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of product marketing and public relations. "We designed the WHR-G54S with our customers' diverse needs in mind. By offering a sophisticated feature-set while continuing to ensure the wireless experience is as simple and seamless as possible, we are providing the mainstream end-user with the most valuable wireless solution available on the market today."

The new AirStation(tm) 125 High Speed Mode(tm) Wireless Cable/DSL Smart Router is the successor to Buffalo's highly popular WBR2-G54S. The product combines new, advanced features with the same robust feature-set as its predecessor such as speed-enhancing technology that increases wireless performance. The new router offers speeds that are 10% faster than the previous version, depending upon environment and 98.7Mbps of routing throughput - 59.3Mbps faster than the earlier version.

The router is 802.11g/802.11b compliant and includes Buffalo's patent-pending ease-of-use technology AirStation One-Touch Secure System (AOSS(tm)). The router includes WDS support for bridging and repeating and external antenna support for enhanced range. The built-in 10/100 4-port Ethernet switch allows users to combine wired and wireless networks on the same LAN and the built-in DHCP server simplifies network administration.

Advanced security features include Wi-Fi Protected Access (tm) (WPA), Privacy Separator and Buffalo's exclusive Intrusion Detector - a powerful firewall that identifies and blocks outside attacks. Additional security features include dynamic packet filtering, NAT support and SPI firewall. The product's wireless output power setting allows users to set the parameters of their wireless signal. Additional security features include 128/64-bit WEP and Dynamic Packet Filtering.

Backed by a limited two-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the Buffalo AirStation(tm) 125 High Speed Mode(tm) Wireless Cable/DSL Smart Router (WHR-G54S) is immediately available at an estimated street price of $69.
