NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Aug. 23, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) was awarded a contract from the U.S. Navy for planning work on the nuclear-powered submarine USS Minneapolis-St. Paul (SSN 708).

Northrop Grumman's Newport News sector is the prime contractor for the work, which will include scheduling, engineering and design work, material procurement, shop pre-fabrication, ship checks and personnel training to support the maintenance availability. The contract is valued at $5 million.
The submarine is scheduled to arrive at the Newport News shipyard in October for a five-and-a-half-month dry-dock maintenance period. The USS Minneapolis-St. Paul was in the shipyard in 2003 for similar maintenance.

"This will be the third dry-docking availability of a Los Angeles-class submarine at Newport News since 2003. We've got a great fleet-support team in place and we hope to continue providing this type of service for our Navy customer."
