SLIDELL, La., Oct. 19, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Noah's Wish, the not-for-profit organization that has been based in Slidell, Louisiana for the past seven weeks rescuing and sheltering over 1,000 animals affected by Hurricane Katrina, is sending an urgent appeal for help to residents of Hammond. "We have several hundred pets that were identified by owners whose homes were destroyed in the storm. We need people to open their homes and their hearts to provide long-term foster care for these animals while their owners rebuild their lives," said Terri Crisp, Founder and Director of Noah's Wish.
Animals at the Noah's Wish temporary shelter in Slidell are held for 30 days to allow for owners to come identify their pets. After 30 days, the pets are placed into foster care for an additional 30 days, in an effort to give owners a greater chance at being able to locate their pets. It is only after 60 days in foster care that Noah's Wish will place the animal for adoption.
"We are nearing the critical 60 day mark for many of the animals in our shelter and we are hoping to foster pets as close to Slidell as possible," said Terri Crisp. "Noah's Wish exists to help people as much as we do animals and our greatest need right now is for long-term foster homes for folks who have no place else for their pets to go."
Over 1,000 animals remain at the temporary shelter located at 1325 Bayou Lane in Slidell, next to Heritage Park. Anyone who is interested in fostering should visit www.noahswish.org for more information or come to the temporary shelter any day of the week from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
