Aker Kvaerner awarded DSEAR compliance project as part of the @One Alliance with Anglian Water

Under this project scope Aker Kvaerner will work with Anglian Water alliance team members to perform risk assessment of fire and explosion hazards, hazardous area classification, inspection of equipment in hazardous areas, and identification of remedial measures, at a number of Anglian Water sites, which accommodate a variety of water, wastewater and sludge treatment facilities. Aker Kvaerner is also providing DSEAR training to Anglian Water operations personnel. The project, with a value of GBP 500,000 to Aker Kvaerner, is scheduled for completion in June 2006.

"Concern for safety and the environment is a core value in Aker Kvaerner, and sharing expertise and best practice gathered from a wide variety of projects and industries is fundamental in helping us to meet and exceed our expectations," explains Mark Leggett, president of Aker Kvaerner's European Engineering Services business.

"Utilising people who have the latest knowledge gained from across our client base, we have experience of local, national and international regulations that can be shared. Having undertaken five pilot DSEAR compliance assessments for Anglian Water during 2004, we have accumulated a great deal of specialist knowledge and capability. This means we can advise on avoiding pitfalls early on and better support Anglian Water as it seeks to achieve legal compliance by the DSEAR compliance deadline," adds Lyn Fernie, Director of the Consultancy group within Aker Kvaerner's Engineering Services business.

Once performed the various technical assessments will be recorded directly onto a networked database accessible at all Anglian Water sites and offices.  A range of customized reports will be available for different audiences at different locations. The innovative database approach to recording the assessments has been developed within the @One Alliance team and aims to deliver a cost-effective solution to maximising the number of sites that can be assessed.

The Consultancy group within Aker Kvaerner's European Engineering Services business is providing the services. Since its launch in May 2001, the Consultancy group has grown rapidly and now has specialists with environment, health and safety experience gained from a wide range of industries including water, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, nuclear and power, as well as from working within the regulators themselves. Capability also covers compliance across a number of sectors, together with total validation expertise for the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries. In addition, the group possesses maintenance and reliability technologies and know-how used to improve business performance and shape best practice.

With offices in the UK, Ireland, and the Netherlands, the group is working on a number of projects for external clients across Europe.
