ADVA Optical Networking Helps French Carrier Neo Telecoms Upgrade Pan-European Ethernet Network

PARIS, MAHWAH, N.J. and MARTINSRIED/MUNICH, Germany, Dec. 15, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- ADVA Optical Networking (Frankfurt:ADV) (Other OTC:ADVOF) today announced the successful deployment of ADVA's Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 1500 into the pan-European network of Neo Telecoms. Neo Telecoms is a European Internet Protocol (IP) service provider based in Paris, France, and runs a network called NeoWan, which spans five countries. The service provider specializes in delivering value-added networking and data services, including IP transit across Europe, optical fiber services, secure hosting services, satellite multicast transport and other managed services for enterprises.

ADVA worked with Neo Telecoms to implement the FSP 1500 for delivering new Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and E1 services across its existing Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) network. The aggregation functionality of the FSP 1500 system uses the standard Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) to enable easy interconnect between locations and existing SDH equipment, increasing the efficiency of the network. In addition, the guaranteed line-rate performance and line protection provide a premium service offering to customers. The initial Neo Telecoms implementation of the FSP 1500 included cities in Austria, France, Germany, Holland and the United Kingdom.

"The ability to offer new high-performance services to enterprises today is paramount," said Didier Soucheyre, president of Neo Telecoms. "ADVA's flexible GFP solution allowed us to expand our network to provide Gigabit- and Fast Ethernet services with equipment that was easy to install. Their ability to quickly deliver this innovative network infrastructure was key to helping us provide advanced Ethernet services for rapidly growing businesses across Europe."

The ADVA FSP 1500 is a carrier-class, next-generation SDH/Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) access system for the seamless aggregation of up to eight high-speed data and storage applications on a combined STM-16/OC-48 interface. Leveraging three ITU-standard technologies -- GFP, Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) -- the FSP 1500 enables service providers to leverage their existing SDH/SONET networks in introducing new high-bit-rate data services and continuing to support traditional voice and data services.

"It is critical for competitive carriers to build networks that are flexible and can scale as the customer base requires additional services," said ADVA's Fabrice Jean, Sales Director, Western Europe and Scandinavia. "The ability of ADVA's FSP 1500 to multiplex several services and provide more efficient network operations allows this carrier to maintain lower capital and operating expenses. We look forward to working cooperatively with Neo Telecoms as it continues building out its network, expanding across a larger geographic region and offering additional services to business customers."

The FSP 1500 is suitable for deployment in point-to-point, add/drop and ring topologies. The solution's small single-rack-unit footprint and hot-swappable, small formfactor pluggable (SFP) optical interfaces enable service providers to more simply and flexibly evolve to customer application requirements.
