LENEXA, Kan., Jan. 31, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Mediware Information Systems (Nasdaq:MEDW) today announced that Lahey Clinic Medical Center of Burlington, MA., will expand its long-term relationship with Mediware and implement MediMAR(r) and MediCOE(tm) at its 293-bed hospital facility.
A long-time user of Mediware's WORx(r) application, Lahey Clinic will deploy MediMAR first and then MediCOE. "Lahey Clinic is looking forward to building on the solid foundation the WORx product has provided, by taking advantage of the additional benefits the MediMAR and MediCOE applications deliver," noted Nelson Gagnon, Chief Information Officer, Lahey Clinic. "We believe these products will allow us to greatly enhance our ordering and administration of patient medications, resulting in higher levels of patient safety, quality, and outcomes."
Delivering technology solutions to the bedside or wherever care-givers practice, is instrumental to patient safety. MediMAR serves as an electronic medication administration record at the patient bedside that produces a dynamic and complete representation of the patient's medication profile, including clinician orders, medication lists, allergies, and medication administration notes. MediMAR also provides clinical alerts that can further enhance patient safety.
MediCOE provides clinicians an efficient electronic method to enter medication orders and to manage drug therapy from any secure remote location. It is a web-based application that allows the user to enter orders using Internet technology.
Together, WORx, MediMAR and MediCOE share the same database and are fully integrated. The integration of the MediMAR and MediCOEproducts with WORx's robust pharmacy information system database makes the solution uniquely powerful for its users.
"We feel that Mediware will be our cornerstone for patient safety efforts and will assist us as we blaze the trail and become a true pioneer with our initiatives to enhance each segment of the medication prescribing and delivery process," stated Ernie Anderson, Director of Pharmacy, Lahey Clinic.
Collaborative partnerships are key to the success of healthcare IT initiatives. "We share in the mission and vision of Lahey Clinic to safeguard the delivery of care," stated Mike Crabtree, President of Mediware's Medication Management Division. "We remain committed to helping our clients achieve their goals of placing advanced technology at the hands of the care-givers to improve health outcomes."
