BURBANK, Calif., Feb. 27, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Imaging3(tm), Inc, (OTCBB:IMGG), developer of a breakthrough medical imaging device that produces 3D medical diagnostic images of virtually any part of the human body in real-time, today provided an overview of how its new product, The Dominion(tm) is being sought after by Pain Management physicians and specialists. The company's product ushers in a new ability for physicians to see not only the source of the pain but to also accurately administer pain relieving procedures or drugs at the exact site of the discomfort.
More than 65 million people in the U.S. are afflicted with back pain each year. Even with x-ray, CT, or MR scans, a definitive diagnosis is not simple. The cause of back pain could be different for each patient, and at times the cause may have no relationship to the findings of the diagnostic exam. Several specialties treat back pain: physiatrists, chiropractors, pain-management anesthesiologists, orthopedists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and interventional radiologists. The U.S. Surgeon general estimated that chronic pain costs the economy $100 billion per year in lost worker productivity and health costs.
Dr. William Claussen, anesthesiologist and owner of pain management clinic, Sunshine Anesthesia, in Fremont, CA, noted that "The Dominion's ability to see in real time, not only the source of the pain, but also to help me guide the administration of the pain relief is a tremendous advance in our ability to bring speedy relief to those suffering from acute or chronic pain. If I can see exactly where to guide the needle, I can often bring greater relief with less medication, and the Dominion should provide just this breakthrough."
Research firm Frost & Sullivan, in a recent research report, notes that "devices that enable minimally invasive procedures in all areas of medicine are anticipated to generate revenues, as these methods become the standard of care for many treatments. Demand for pain management and drug delivery applications is likely to expand due to an increase in the aging population user base and development of novel ways to treat pain and administer medicines." The Dominion is an example of this kind of medical device.
"The Dominion will enhance the ability of physicians performing diagnosis and treatment in pain management by allowing a 3D view of the spine in real time. This is not only important in diagnosis but when performing injections, the physician can guide the needle placement in 3D real time. Currently, physicians performing injections must manipulate a c-arm in several views around the patient to provide depth and direction orientation images. In 3D real time, the physician can view all orientations, depth and direction simultaneously, thus increasing the accuracy and speed of the procedure. With the decrease of reimbursement rates a device that can provide these key factors is invaluable," stated Dean Janes, Imaging3's CEO. "Another attractive feature will be the capability of the Dominion to perform CT emulation, thus giving pain management physicians another source of revenue generation and diagnosis."
