In another commentary we said today, "Earlier this week, we said we would not put "50 cents" into a dow-component stock. Our belief is actually more broad-based than that, though. NYSE stocks - as a whole - are extremely overbought."
That's how we feel about AMD and MRK. Both of these stocks are over-extended. Now, understand that we are talking about short-term trading positions. Long-term holders of these stocks may not find our opinion holds true for them on a long-term basis. Yet, short term traders - or those looking for a short-term entry position - could find this is a good time to move back from AMD and MRK.
Pfizer and Qwest represent the flip side to that case, though. We believe that traders could buy both of these at current levels and enjoy a market-beating move. If the market rises, we see PFE and Q beating the average gain of any stocks that rise.
