LENEXA, Kan., May 26, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Mediware Information Systems (Nasdaq:MEDW), a leader in robust clinical applications, announces that Community Medical Center (CMC) Healthcare System of Scranton, PA is the latest client to select the company's MediMAR(R) medication administration solution to enhance medication distribution and patient safety. CMC is a seven-year client of Mediware's WORx(R) drug-therapy management platform.
CMC is devoted to providing superior healthcare to its surrounding communities and has partnered with Mediware to integrate technology from the pharmacy to the patient's bedside. Already a user of the market-leading WORx clinical platform, the addition of the integrated MediMAR medication administration software will enable CMC to extend automated support to the bedside, streamline the clinical episodes of care, and reduce the number of errors found within the current medication administration processes.
MediMAR produces a dynamic and full representation of each patient's medication profile, including in-depth demographic and clinical information, rich clinical content, and alerts, while promoting tighter communication between clinicians. The result is increased awareness of all factors that affect medication interactions, automated process support, and greater patient safety.
"This automation will allow for a more efficient and effective care process, and a higher level of safety for medication delivery for those giving and receiving care," noted Joe Zarcone, director of Pharmacy Services, CMC Healthcare System. "The implementation roll-out will focus on a single pilot area and will gradually deploy to all areas of the hospital. The reduction of medication errors and adverse interactions through automation safeguards will be key to the success of the program."
The 315-bed hospital and regional trauma center serving the northeast Pennsylvania area will also benefit from a common integrated database for the WORx and MediMAR products. Patient data can be accessed in a variety of ways -- depending on the unique needs of the patients and the caregivers.
"We are delighted to expand our partnership with Community Medical Center Healthcare System and are confident that the addition of our patient-centric technology will enhance its goal to deliver the best possible care," stated Kevin Ketzel, Vice President and General Manager of Mediware's Medication Management Division. "The CMC team should be commended for proactively advancing its capabilities through technology. CMC's commitment to quality and safety is reflected in its excellent reputation."
