TASER Device Prevents Shooting

WASHINGTON, June 14, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news report from the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, a North Pole man who was spotted by police driving his Yamaha ATV in an area closed to off-road vehicles was brought into custody on charges ranging from reckless driving to weapons misconduct. Michel C. Lewis, 32, failed to obey a North Pole police officer when asked to stop his ATV and instead did a wheelie across both southbound lanes of Richardson Highway near Mile 345. Lewis then made another sharp turn, flinging his passenger off the ATV before stopping the vehicle but refused to shut it off. Officers threatened Lewis with a TASER device and he responded by dismounting the vehicle, unzipping his jacket and reaching for a pistol in a shoulder holster. The officer deployed his TASER device and held Lewis at gunpoint until backup arrived.

Officers found two loaded guns in Lewis' shoulder holster; a Ruger MKII .22-caliber pistol and a Desert Eagle .44-caliber magnum. Lewis also failed a sobriety test with a breath-alcohol content measuring 0.23, four times the legal limit.
