BOULDER, Colo., June 20, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Energy Conservation Technologies, Inc. (Pink Sheets:ENYC), a landmark technology company ("Econ"), developed new and exciting business opportunities during the 17th Lightfair International held in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 31-June 2.
Lightfair International is a global annual lighting industry event that showcases products and technologies in the lighting industry. In addition to industry giants such as GE more than 550 of the industry's leading companies around the world exhibited their products in this year's Lightfair convention. Many educational seminars were also held for architect, engineers and end-user lighting professionals.
Products and technologies related to Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH) lamps and Light Emitting Diodes (LED) were the primary attractions of this year's exhibits. CMH lamps, one of the newer HID lamp technologies, produce dazzling and vibrant lights with minimum glares. In comparison with halogen lamps, CMH lamps are 3-5 times more energy efficient and last 5-6 times longer. These attractive features of CMH lamps combined with miniature electronic ballasts are beginning to appear in applications in supermarkets and department stores as replacements for halogen lamps. Lower wattage HID electronic ballast sales for this segment of the industry are projected to be tens of millions of units per year.
Econ has been aggressively working to develop business partnerships with reputable companies for the purpose of commercialization of its HID electronic ballasts. During this trade fair, the company demonstrated its products and held discussions with top level management of selective lighting companies, including one of the world's largest lighting fixture and ballast manufacturers. Econ demonstrated the following HID electronic ballasts: 150W and 250W ballast for metal halide and high-pressure sodium lamps and the newest addition -- the miniature 70W electronic ballast for CMH lamps.
The demonstrations and business discussions with several significant companies exceeded Econ's expectations. Econ is now entering into discussions with goals to develop private labeling, direct sales and joint venture opportunities with major lighting companies now aware of Econ's technology. The next step for pursuing these opportunities is to submit various ballast samples, as requested by these companies.
Fazle Quazi, Econ Chairman and Director of Engineering, stated, "This annual event is an excellent showcase for illumination products worldwide and to discuss and present lighting technology with key management, engineers and sales personnel of their respective companies. We have established several significant leads with several HID ballast and lighting companies that could prove fruitful and significant in our commercialization process."
About Energy Conservation Technologies, Inc.
Energy Conservation Technologies, Inc., (Econ(tm)) is an R&D and product marketing company in the field of electrical energy. Since its inception in 2000, Econ has generated several breakthrough landmark patents in the USA and Internationally. Econ products such as the state-of-the-art HID electronic ballasts for gas discharge lamps save and conserve significant electrical energy at a lower cost. Econ's proprietary and patented technology also makes energy conversion products for alternative energy such as wind, fuel and solar cell inverters cheaper and more energy efficient.
Econ products have applications into five (5) distinct market segments:
-- Electronic ballasts for HID lamps for commercial lighting -- Electronic ballasts for Automotive HID headlight lamps -- Electronic ballasts for Fluorescent lamps for commercial lighting -- Power Inverters for alternative energy sources such as Fuel cell, Wind and Solar -- Power Supplies for Telecommunications and Computers
Each of the above market segments is a multi-billion dollar global industry.
Econ's primary focus at this time is to commercialize its fully developed electronic ballasts for HID lamps. Electronic ballasts are an emerging market for the replacement of magnetic ballasts and expected to grow rapidly into a multi billion dollar industry as energy savings and conservations become necessary to keep up with the worldwide increased use of electricity. Once the commercialization of Econ electronic HID ballasts are realized, the company intends to introduce its products for other market segments.
Lighting is a major contributor of greenhouse gas emissions. More than one third (1/3) of the global electricity production is used for lighting. This necessitates and creates opportunities for efficient and energy saving lighting sources that can potentially save over 100 billion dollars per year.
HID lamps are one of the most efficient artificial light sources and they also have a very long life. These are the primary reasons why HID lamps are used for large area illuminations such as streetlights, airports, warehouses, stadiums and parking garages. The following is a brief comparison between the HID and Incandescent light sources:
HID: Average Life - 15,000 hours Average lumen/watt - 80 INCANDESCENT: Average Life - 1,000 hours Average lumen/watt - 12
Unlike incandescent bulbs, HID lamps require ballasts for ignition and operation. Magnetic ballasts, a century old core and coil technology, operate almost all of the HID lamps in use today. HID Electronic ballasts are based on newer technologies and offer the following primary advantages:
-- Saves energy -- Lightweight -- Increased useful lamp life by maintaining original light output
Econ's HID electronic ballasts reduce energy consumption by saving twenty five percent (25%) electrical energy over the life of a lamp. This is primarily due to: 1) improved lamp ignition and lumen maintenance, 2) controlling lamp power throughout the lamp life and 3) high efficiency power conversion technology.
One of the primary distinctions and advantages of the Econ technology is that Econ products can be manufactured at a lower cost. Higher performance combined with lower cost -- these two key factors will be the driving force for rapid market penetration and growth for Econ products.
Econ intends to market its products primarily by forming strategic partnerships with reputable national and international companies. In certain niche areas, the company intends to market its products through direct sales.
