A Dysfunctional Family in 19th Century Russia -- New Book Features Stunning Tale About Peasants and Complexities of Multiple Themes

WAYNE, Pa., June 27, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Crossing the bridge to the past has its treasures. The life and culture of the 19th century return in vibrant fashion as Xlibris proudly releases Kr (short for Karamazov Revisited), the compelling new psycho-drama novel from author Edward J. Murray.

Kr is an historical novel that takes place in Russia in the 1860s. It was a time there when the peasants were being liberated from the bondage of serfdom. The centerpiece of the novel is a dysfunctional family. Each member displays the extremes of several human emotions -- unbridled passions, immoderate spirituality, acute cynical intelligence, world-class corruption, and cast-in-stone bitterness. The reader will be quick to recognize that such emotions are very alive in twenty-first century America and the rest of the world. Although a good bit of the novel is dominated by the dark intemperate side of human emotions, the comical slips in with an appropriate dose as do the ordinary virtues -- prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude. It ends as a champion of hope, light and goodness.

As it deals with all major emotional struggles that can be associated with the human condition, Kr gives readers insights into the tools that can be used to be superior to them. The novel has also been described as a praiseworthy, creative, artistic re-invention of the most celebrated European novel of the nineteenth century, and it puts a fresh face on work highly praised by the likes of Albert Einstein, John Paul II and Virginia Woolf. The complexities of the themes featured in the story will win the attention of all readers and make them realize how much the modern world has in common with 19th century Europe. About the Author

The author is a native of the Philadelphia area, born in the shadow of the city's majestic Greco-Roman Art Museum and historic Boathouse Row. He is now living in the shadow of that heroic winter encampment -- Valley Forge. He has been writing all his adult life, and this is his second full-length novel in three years. The author's interests are vast, ranging from ancient thought to modern astronomy. Lighter but, he thinks, healthier avocations include swimming, tennis, golf, hometown football, and dropping a fly in a trout stream. He maintains that the pleasure of spending some time doing nothing should not be ignored.
