Xlibris Releases a Dramatic and Thought-Provoking Novel That Deals With The Pains of the Past

CLINTON, Md., July 6, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Crossing the bridge to the past has its pains and horrors that affect us all. With the release of his new book Children of the Fire, author Richard W. Shelton presents a touching and suspenseful story of traumatized young adults that will leave you breathless.

Children of the Fire features the story of seven emotionally scarred young adults, all of whom suffer from childhood traumas of extreme violence, perpetrated by persons within the family group. The novel immerses readers within the personal lives of these characters from their early childhood, through adolescence and to young adulthood. From four totally different families and totally diverse backgrounds, they meet as friends at Georgetown University. The sole factor common to the life of each is the life-altering violence each has gone through. Bonded in the kinship of their pasts, and despite their significant differences in economic status and ethnicity, they look to one another for strength and understanding, all except the killer among them. All struggle to bring closure to the past, find reason for hope, and discover the joys of love. The "Fire" in the title is both real and symbolic and operates as a metaphor for the life altering experiences in each child's past.

Dramatic and richly-layered, Children of the Fire is an entertaining, suspenseful and thought-provoking page-turner that deals with the pains of the past as well as the torment people carry deep in their souls.
