CHARLES TOWN, W.Va., July 11, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- American Military University has partnered with Jackson-Perks Post No. 71 of the American Legion to support the Legion's delegation to Mountaineer Boys State. AMU recently presented a check to the post for the program.
The national American Legion started Boys State in 1935 as a practical way to educate young men about the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of American citizenship. For each Boys State, there is an equivalent Girls State.
The local Charles Town American Legion Post No. 71 was first founded in 1919. After World War II it was renamed Jackson-Perks in memory of Wade H. Jackson and Joseph W. Perks, the first two men from Jefferson County killed in that war. The Post welcomes new members from those who have served in the nation's military during a time of conflict.
American Military University is headquartered in Charles Town and serves over 15,000 students worldwide. More than 80 percent serve in the U.S. military.
