Nation's First Surfing Walk of Fame Goes Online

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., July 26, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Surfing Walk of Fame, the nation's first sidewalk memorial to the surfing industry, has announced the launch of its world-class website concurrent with its 2006 induction ceremony. The announcement further solidifies the city's growing recognition as Surf City USA(r) headquarters.

"The website will be a tremendous resource for the surfing industry," said Don MacAllister, chairman for the Surfing Walk of Fame. "Now, the Walk of Fame can be a true repository for surfing history."

Inductees to the Surfing Walk of Fame are included in six different categories: Surf Pioneer, Surf Champion, Woman of the Year, Surf Culture, Local Hero and Honor Roll. The website, which was designed by Lewis Harrison of Lewis Harrison Design, Inc., features profiles of all inductees since 1994, as well as a definition of the category. The website also includes information on the history of the walk, board members, a profile of surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku and details on the annual election process for new inductees.

Each year, the Surfing Walk of Fame Board, in collaboration with the International Surfing Museum, surfing associations, publications and other organizations, creates a comprehensive ballot of qualified candidates for induction.

Candidates undergo a rigorous selection process, including a review of their contributions to the surfing community ten years prior to their induction. The ballot is then distributed to some 200 surfing authorities who make the final vote. Inductees receive stones in their name, which line the north side of the first block of Main Street, Huntington Beach.

The 2006 induction ceremony will happen on Thursday, July 27th, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street in Huntington Beach. To visit the Surfing Walk of Fame website, log on to www.surfingwalkoffame.com.
