Despite Significant Spending and Research, U.S. Remains Vulnerable to Potential Bio-Terror Attacks

Increased Awareness and Vigilance Key in the Battle Against Bio-Terrorism According to Universal Detection Technology

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- According to Universal Detection Technology (OTCBB:UDTT) (www.udetection.com) (FWB:PO8), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bio-terrorism and other infectious health threats, despite many recent advances in technologies and procedures aimed at eliminating or reducing the devastating consequences of a potential attack with bio-terror agents, such as anthrax, the U.S. remains vulnerable.

According to a recent article by Greg Gordon, published by the Sacramento Bee, the "Federal Government's $28 billion crash program to defend against a bio-terror attack is beginning to show up in cities across the country." Many potential terrorist targets in the Capitol are equipped with some sort of air-purifying systems, which is a vivid indication of the urgency of the situation. But as Tara O'Toole, a cofounder of the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Bio-security, recently told Congress, "the U.S. does not yet have a coherent bio-defense strategy...that takes into account the spectrum of possible bio-weapons agents, including engineered threats."

"Despite the advances that have clearly made the nation way more vigilant and aware of the threat posed by use of bio-agents as weapons by terrorists, there is still major work that needs to be done before risks are reduced to acceptable levels," said Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's CEO. "Recent studies by experts and health professionals have indicated desperate needs for more efficient filters and detectors and slowly but surely more and more building operators are responding to the call. Filters and germ killing technologies have been implemented in several Federal Buildings in the Washington area, a model that we hope shall be followed around the nation and in all major towns and cities. Technologies to mitigate and reduce these apparent threats and the expertise needed for their implementation are the corner stone of UDTT's mission," he added.
