DGA Honors to Recognize Leadership in the Film and Television Industry on October 12th at the DGA Theater in New York City

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Sopranos Executive Producer David Chase, Director Arthur Penn, Actor/Humanitarian Danny Glover and the Anthology Film Archives to Receive 2006 DGA Honors




                 VIP Gala at Nobu 57 to Follow Event

NEW YORK, Sept. 11, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, The Sopranos executive producer David Chase, filmmaker Arthur Penn, actor-humanitarian Danny Glover and the Anthology Film Archives will be recognized for their contributions to the film and television industry at the Directors Guild of America Theater in New York City on Oct. 12, 2006. The event will be followed by a lavish gala at famed Nobu 57 Restaurant. All honorees will be present to accept their awards.

"DGA Honors was created to celebrate distinguished contributions to American culture through the world of film and television," said DGA President Michael Apted. "On October 12, DGA Honors will be the New York nexus of entertainment, business, labor and politics -- an event as unique as the individuals and institutions it recognizes."

"DGA Honors reflects the unique talents and distinguished contributions of its honorees," said DGA National Vice President Steven Soderbergh. "This is a group of true leaders, from Mayor Bloomberg's extraordinary success in bringing film and television production back to New York City and David Chase's visionary creation of a dysfunctional mob family in New Jersey, to the lasting influence of Arthur Penn's cinematic genius in films like Bonnie and Clyde, the selfless devotion of Danny Glover to improving health care and education in the U.S. and Africa, and the Anthology Film Archives dedication to preserving the art of cinema for more than 35 years. They inspire us all."

Past DGA Honors recipients have included influential filmmakers Jonathan Demme, Sydney Pollack, Robert Altman and Martin Scorsese, as well as powerful leaders in entertainment, labor and politics such as Bob Shaye, CEO, New Line; Jeff Bewkes, President, Time Warner; Senator Ted Kennedy and IATSE President Tom Short. Past presenters include Oprah Winfrey, Halle Berry, Nicholas Cage, Ron Howard, Kevin Spacey, Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow and Francis Ford Coppola. Past hosts have included noted comedians such as Dave Chappelle, Ellen DeGeneres and Richard Belzer.

Arrivals for the DGA Honors on October 12, 2006, will begin at 6 p.m. at the DGA New York City headquarters, 110 W. 57th Street, followed by an awards presentation at 7 p.m. in the renovated DGA Theater. Honorees and guests will then gather at 8 p.m. at the renowned Nobu 57 Restaurant, 40 W. 57th Street, for the VIP post-Honors gala.
