COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Oct. 2, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) will highlight its homeland security and defense planning capabilities this week at the Homeland Defense Symposium.
The exposition will be held Oct. 2-5 at the Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs, Colo.

In the exhibit hall, Northrop Grumman will feature multiple homeland security and defense-planning solutions:
-- The TouchTable(tm) is a projection display set on a
45-inch diagonal table. The projection tabletop display
facilitates viewing and manipulation of complex data that
cannot readily be represented on a standard computer
display. TouchTable senses the location of points that
are touched to manipulate timely information in an
interactive and collaborative environment. The platform
has applications for hurricane and pandemic tracking,
emergency preparedness, training and exercises, and
disaster response.
-- The Northrop Grumman Cyber Warfare Integration Network
(CWIN) provides a collaborative, interactive environment
to test new systems, rehearse missions, perform engineering
analysis, and mitigate risk through a combination of live
and virtual inputs. Equipped with extensive data capture
and analysis tools, the CWIN's modeling and simulation
infrastructure can access and display all supporting
technical and operational data to whatever level the
customer desires. Northrop Grumman will present a
maritime-homeland security defense vignette, which
provides an innovative and cost effective method to
explore potential solutions that include persistent
intelligence, identification and interoperability.
-- Global Hawk is a high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned
aerial reconnaissance system designed for autonomous
operation while maintaining maximum human interaction
for tactical flexibility. The air vehicle can survey
large geographic areas with pinpoint accuracy to give
military decision-makers real-time information about
enemy location, resources and personnel.
-- The Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) is
a forward-deployed airborne communications relay and
network-centric information server that allows real-time
information exchanges among many different, distant military,
federal and commercial communications systems. BACN has
demonstrated the capability to provide, in operational
conditions, critical voice communications and real-time
video surveillance and imagery to warfighters and first
responders in airborne and ground units and command centers.
-- As the space component of the nation's future integrated
intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, Space Radar
satellites will provide day-night, all weather, 24-7
detection and tracking of moving targets worldwide, as well
as 3-D radar mapping data. The three key mission areas Space
Radar will support are: synthetic aperture radar for
radar-based imagery; surface moving target indication for
detection, identification, geolocation and tracking of moving
objects near or on the surface of land or water; and high
resolution terrain information.
-- The Centurion system provides an integrated common
operational picture combining standard surface search
sensing systems with fiber-optic underwater sonar sensors to
provide a complete under-the-sea and on-the-sea picture to
the operator. Centurion incorporates marine radars, an
automatic information system, video, electro-optical and
infrared cameras, electric charting displays and the Fiber
Optic Acoustic system. The system not only detects, tracks
and identifies surface vessels, but also detects underwater
vehicles and divers.
-- The Hawkeye Joint Harbor Operations Center system takes
input from a variety of sensors - including radars and
cameras, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration, and maritime automated vehicle
identification receivers - to provide a consolidated
situation awareness display for port and harbor activities
"from the pier outward."
-- Northrop Grumman's Operational Visualization Aid is designed
to illustrate an architectural overview and concept of
operations for an integrated and synergistic platform
approach to hurricane surveillance and reconnaissance.
It shows the combination of space-based assets combined
with unmanned aerial systems in conjunction with ocean
observing platforms. The continuous observation and data
collection of the hurricane eye and eyewall helps to better
understand rapid hurricane intensification and eyewall
replacement phenomena. Additionally, improved temporal and
spatial resolution of collected data will help improve
hurricane forecast models. Improvements in hurricane
forecasts could result in evacuation cost savings and
reduced loss of life.
