COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Oct. 2, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC), one of the largest defense contractors in Colorado Springs, will break ground Oct. 3 on the first building of what is to be a 30-acre new campus located at Colorado Springs Airport Business Park.
The groundbreaking ceremony will include Colorado Lt. Governor Jane Norton; Lionel Rivera, mayor of the city of Colorado Springs; John Faulkner, Colorado Springs assistant director of aviation planning and development; Stephen Nesterak, senior vice president of Lowe Enterprises Real Estate Group; Jerry Agee, Northrop Grumman corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector; and Tim McMahon, Northrop Grumman corporate lead executive for the Colorado Springs region.
The company will consolidate employees from its eight existing buildings in Colorado Springs to two new buildings. The first will provide 125,000 square feet of office space on three floors and will house 400 employees from the company's Mission Systems, Electronic Systems, and Space Technology sectors. The building is expected to be completed in about one year.
"This new high-tech, state-of-the-art facility will provide a superior working environment for our employees, will implement operating efficiencies, and most importantly, will enable Northrop Grumman to continue offering our defense and intelligence community customers the best possible solutions to meet challenges today, tomorrow and for many decades to come," McMahon said. Northrop selected Lowe Enterprises to develop the new building. It will be located at the Colorado Springs Airport Business Park on the south side of Drennan Road east of Powers Blvd. and midway between the north-south access roads to the airport terminal building.
The company plans to begin construction on the second building in 2008 with completion expected the following year. The 110,000-square foot building will house employees from Northrop Grumman's Information Technology, Integrated Systems, and Technical Services sectors.
Northrop Grumman employs about 1,200 people in Colorado Springs and approximately 2,700 throughout Colorado.
