New Emulex Storage Processor Family Wins Technology Innovation Accelerated Award At Intel(r) Developer Forum

Company Recognized for Its Leadership Role in the Storage Industry at 2006 Intel Developer Forum

COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 4, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, today announced that its new embedded storage processors and controller product family won the Intel(r) Technology Innovation Accelerated (Intel TIA) Award for the Storage Category. The Intel TIA award is presented each year at the semi-annual Intel Developer Forum (IDF) to recognize technological advancements and innovation.

Emulex's IOP 502M is the industry's only multi-protocol storage processor, allowing Fibre Channel, SAS and SATA connections simultaneously and the IOP 504 is the industry's first quad-channel Fibre Channel controller with integrated storage processor. Both products, in addition to the Emulex IOC 504, afford significant flexibility in designing storage solutions, ranging from entry-level to the enterprise that can capitalize on multiple protocols. These market-leading products are a direct result of joint development efforts with Intel and are based in part on the Intel XScale(tm) microprocessor.

"Winning this award validates Emulex's commitment to delivering industry-leading embedded multi-protocol solutions, and also reinforces its leadership position within the end-to-end embedded storage products sector," said Brian Reed, vice president of business development, Emulex Corporation. "At the same time, this award recognizes and spotlights our successful relationship with Intel. Through that relationship we are now able to offer products that lend our OEM customers significant flexibility in meeting end-user enterprise IT challenges."

"The TIAs recognize companies and individuals who take a creative approach in developing exciting new products that promise to exceed customers' expectations," said IDF General Manager Rob Chapman. "The Storage Award highlights the building blocks for optimized storage products. We see tremendous potential in Emulex's latest technology and are proud to promote their efforts."

Intel TIAs were established to reward companies who incorporate Intel's latest technologies and adopt its new platform strategies. The competitive awards program was open to all exhibitors and sponsors, and was narrowed down to seventeen competing finalists. Journalists and analysts covering the three-day technical conference selected the winners of each category.
