FierceGameBiz Announces Provocative 'BrainPong' Competition, Stirring Debate About Pricing of Sony PlayStation 3

Winner Receives the Choice of One Sony PlayStation 3 or Two Nintendo Wii Consoles

WASHINGTON, Oct. 16, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- FierceGameBiz (www.fiercegamebiz.com) today announced BrainPong, an interactive competition designed to provoke discussion within the video game community. BrainPong debuts today with the question: "Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) president, Katz Hirai, recently said the PlayStation 3 will have a lifespan of 10 years, and called it a 'fantastic value' at $600. To what extent do you agree or disagree with those remarks, and why?"

Participants must provide their answer in no more than 100 words. Nathan Eddy, the editor of FierceGameBiz, will select the winner based on originality, wit, and brevity. The winner will receive his or her choice of a 60 GB PlayStation 3 or two Nintendo Wii consoles. The winning response will also be featured as a "Spotlight" in the FierceGameBiz email newsletter and website.

"Everybody has an opinion, and BrainPong is designed to bring out the best of them," said Eddy. "We're kicking off the competition with a question that's on everyone's mind: Will PlayStation three-peat and dominate the market for the next decade, or is Sony blowing smoke?"

"We thought it would be fun to give away a prize that relates to the BrainPong debate," continued Eddy. "Asking participants to choose between winning one PlayStation 3 or two Wiis adds weight to the discussion."

"The video game industry is a booming market," said Jeff Giesea, president of FierceMarkets, the parent company of FierceGameBiz. "What's been lacking is a one-stop resource for the industry's top developers, designers, publishers, and decision-makers. FierceMarkets filled that void in July 2006 when we launched FierceGameBiz. BrainPong is an example of how we're becoming not just the gaming industry's top source of daily news, but its water cooler, too."

Entries for the BrainPong competition must be received by midnight (EST) on October 30th. The contest is open only to residents of North America, and FierceMarkets employees and their relatives are not eligible.

The FierceGameBiz email newsletter and Web site launched in July 2006 and covers topics such as video games, mobile gaming, in-game advertising, MMOGs and games used for training in education and health care. FierceGameBiz provides news about, and exclusive interviews with key companies such as Bandai Games, IGA Worldwide, Microsoft, Midway, Nintendo and Sony. The publication and Web site also cover growth areas such as mobile gaming and online gaming, as well as major conferences such as D.I.C.E. Summit, E3, the Game Developers Conference and the Tokyo Game Show. Sign up is free at http://www.fiercegamebiz.com/subscribe.php.
