PAM's year 2006 Good Deed award to Citymarket Oy

KESKO FOOD LTD PRESS RELEASE 01.11.2006 AT 09.00

Service Union United PAM has granted its year 2006 Good Deed award to Citymarket Oy for signing an agreement concerning part-time employees' working hours. The agreement enables part-time employees to increase their weekly working hours. The Good Deed award was now granted for the first time and will become an annual recognition.

Part-time employees' option to work longer hours was negotiated between Citymarket Oy's chief shop steward and the employer during 2005. As a result, an agreement on the principles of part-timers' longer working hours was signed. In accordance with the agreement, the first chain-specific working hour review was carried out in January-February 2006.

In the background of the agreement was Citymarket Oy's part-time employees' willingness to work longer weekly hours. The option of longer working hours was found to be in the interest of both employees and the employer: the company's own employees working longer weekly hours ensures that the employer has competent and professional staff and it also enhances employees' motivation and commitment to work. At the local level, Citymarket Oy's department store directors and shop stewards at each outlet are responsible for the implementation of the agreement.

The Good Deed award was presented by Ann Selin, President of the Service Union United PAM, to Leila Tilvis, Chief Shop Steward of Citymarket Oy, and Pekka Svanljung, HR Manager, on Wednesday, 1 November 2006 in Helsinki.

The K-citymarket chain currently includes 54 stores. Citymarket Oy, a Kesko Food subsidiary, is responsible for the home and speciality goods trade of K-citymarkets. The company employs about 3,200 people. Independent retailers are in charge of the grocery trade in K-citymarkets.
