Buffalo Announces Two New Consumer-Focused NAS Devices

The New Products Provide Simple and Affordable Home Network Storage Solution and Include Extra Consumer-Friendly Features

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- 2007 International CES (BOOTH No. Renaissance 26) -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage, multimedia and memory solutions, today announced the LinkStation Live and TeraStation Live consumer NAS devices. The products are designed to allow users to easily store and distribute multimedia files such as music, media back-ups, family videos and photos around the home. The LinkStation Live and TeraStation Live are cost-effective, high-performance, NAS solutions that deliver superior reliability and usability for consumers. The LinkStation Live is available in capacities of 250GB (HS-DH250GL), 320GB (HS-DH320GL), 500GB (HS-DH500GL) and 750GB (HS-DH750GL). The TeraStation Live is available in capacities of 1TB (HS-DH1.0TGL/R5) and 2TB (HS-DH2.0TGL/R5).

New to both products is the ability to use the devices as an iTunes(tm) server, which allows iTunes 7 software to access music stored on the devices. The products also now include the ability to store photos and videos directly from a digital camera. Both the LinkStation Live and TeraStation Live are designed to DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) guidelines so customers can access videos, photos or music stored on them and play it back on any device designed to DLNA guidelines in the home. DLNA is an interoperability standard for the digital home, which enables PC and consumer electronics products to seamlessly work together.

"As with all of our consumer-driven products, we designed the LinkStation Live and TeraStation Live with the needs of the digital home in mind," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of global sales and marketing at Buffalo Technology. "We want to make it easy and affordable for consumers to have access to all of their digital content throughout their home and today we're making that possible."

The LinkStation Live and TeraStation Live include Mediabolic's Media Server software making music, photo, and video files available over a network for streamed playback on connected entertainment products. The software resides on the NAS devices and aggregates personal media so that it can be accessed by a variety of player products, such as network TVs, set-top boxes, and digital media adapters.

"Mediabolic, which was acquired by Macrovision Corporation on January 1, 2007, has been working with Buffalo to help complement the functionality of their industry-leading networking, storage and multi-media devices," said Fred Amoroso, CEO of Macrovision. "This longstanding and collaborative partnership utilizing Mediabolic's technology has enabled Buffalo to create superior, user-friendly products that can be used as the centerpiece of the digital home."

With the LinkStation Live and TeraStation Live, Consumers can now instantly store, access, backup and share multimedia and other files from any computer on their home. Both products include a high performance Marvell Media Vault Processor (the LinkStation Live uses a 400MHz CPU, and the TeraStation Live uses a 500MHz CPU); DDR-II Ram and SATA (Serial ATA) Hard Drives for ultra fast transfer rates of up to 35MB/s. For even better performance, the products also provide an Auto-MDIX10/100/1000 Base-T Gigabit Ethernet Port and Gigabit Jumbo Frame Support. Both devices are Windows(tm) and Macintosh(tm) compatible and have two USB 2.0 ports that can accommodate additional external USB hard drives for expanded networked storage or as backup targets. The products also include a print server for sharing a network printer. For additional data protection, the products also include Memeo(tm) AutoBackup(tm) multi-language backup software for Windows, which runs in the background and automatically backs up files from your PC.

The TeraStation Live includes five operational modes: RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 10, RAID 5, and JBOD (Spanning). RAID 5 Mode takes advantage of the popular disk arraying technology and offers increased performance with fault tolerance by spreading data across the four separate drives with uniformity to allow simple data recovery in the event of drive failure.
