Budget surplus of SEK 18 billion in 2006

The Swedish central government budget showed a surplus of SEK 18 billion in 2006. This is approximately the same level as in 2005, despite interest on central government debt rising by SEK 16 billion and the Debt Office's net lending increasing by SEK 17 billion between 2005 and 2006. This has been counteracted by very strong economic growth which has led to a continued strong increase in central government revenue. Central government debt decreased by SEK 39 billion to SEK 1,270 billion at the end of the year.
