Latvijas kuģniecība 18.01.2007 THE WINNER OF THE 47TH EUROVISION SONG CONTEST MARIJA NAUMOVA BECOMES GODMOTHER OF THE LASCO*S FIRST TANKER NEWBUILD IN KOREA JSC Latvijas kuģniecība (Latvian Shipping Company - LASCO) informs that today, 18 January 2007, the first of four tanker newbuilds ordered by LASCO at Korea*s shipyard Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd. (HMD) named Kraslava has been delivered in a festive delivery ceremony. The great honour of being the ship*s Godmother was entrusted to Ms. Marija Naumova, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and the winner of the 47th Eurovision song contest (under the stage name of Marie N). In total, four tanker newbuilds have been ordered by LASCO at HMD. Within this year, following the newly built m/t Kraslava, LASCO will take the delivery of three middle-range (37,258 dwt each) double-hull ice-classed sister-vessels compliant with all EU marine safety requirements and international conventions, which will enable the Group to approach its main strategic goal set in LASCO Strategic Plan 2005-2010, namely, to retain the Group*s position among the world*s top ten handy-size and middle-range tanker owners at the same time preserving its leading position in the North European market. Presently LASCO fleet consists of 31 product tankers, 5 reefer vessels, 2 LPG carriers, 1 Ro-Ro/general cargo vessel, as well as 3 tankers (Blue Star, Green Star and Maria M) time chartered in from other shipowners.
