Kazeon Dramatically Reduces the Cost of Electronic Discovery
New Approach Enables Enterprises to Identify, Search, and Manage Electronic Information as Required by Revised Federal Rules

NEW YORK CITY, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 29, 2007 -- LEGALTECH -- Kazeon, the recognized
leader in unstructured information management, today unveiled an
e-discovery solution designed to help businesses automate legal discovery
related processes and specifically address the amendments to the Federal
Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) which took effect in December 2006.
Utilizing Kazeon's Information Server IS1200-ECS, organizations can now
reduce the time and cost of the manually intensive process of e-discovery
by as much as 90%. The IS1200-ECS is the industry's first product that can
index, identify, search, and manage billions of online documents and email
messages during the e-discovery process without having to copy or send data
outside to a third party. Based on Kazeon's patent-pending technology, the
IS1200-ECS delivers unprecedented productivity, control, and cost savings
to legal and IT staff actively managing litigation and investigations
within an organization.
The amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP), which took
effect December 1, 2006, present new legal risks for companies with
massively growing data stores. Under FRCP Rule 26(b), parties in litigation
must produce all electronically stored information that is relevant, not
privileged and "reasonably accessible," which includes information that
resides online on a corporation's desktops, laptops, servers, and networked
storage systems. In reviewing responses to legal discovery requests, a
requesting party may identify sources containing electronically stored
information that the responding party is neither searching nor producing.
Failure by a responding party to properly produce electronically stored
information can, in certain circumstances, result in serious sanctions.
Consequently, businesses must now build sufficient processes and
capabilities into their IT infrastructure in order to satisfy these new
legal requirements.
"The combination of enormous data growth and new electronic discovery
requirements requires that organizations look for new ways to identify,
search, and manage their online information," said Vivian Tero, Senior
Research Analyst, IDC. "The ability to deliver content-aware search and
discovery capabilities while providing operational productivity gains would
resonate well with customers. Products like Kazeon's IS1200-ECS are
designed to address this critical need."
The IS1200-ECS automates the e-discovery process by rapidly indexing and
identifying relevant documents (Microsoft Office files, PST files, Adobe
PDF files, etc.) and email messages stored on servers, storage systems,
desktops and laptops. This enables legal and IT staff to quickly determine
the scope, breadth and depth of an enterprise's electronically stored
information that might be pursued during discovery. Powerful features are
combined with an easy-to-use web-based user interface to enable legal and
IT staff to tailor and meet an organization's requirements for document
review workflow during litigation and investigations. These features
enable the legal and IT staff to automate and take consideration of any
claims and defenses, preservation demands, disclosure requirements, and
discovery demands.
Legal and IT staff can now, for the first time, quickly identify
potentially discoverable electronically stored information across the
enterprise, accurately assess the data that has been gathered, and preserve
the integrity of the collected information by automatically protecting it
against destruction or alteration. The overall data set collection can
also be reduced by setting aside duplicate and irrelevant documents and
email messages based on file content, email thread analysis, and more.
The secure, feature rich search capabilities of the IS1200-ECS enables
legal and IT staff to rapidly identify and locate relevant documents and
email messages and then take action. Integrated e-discovery workflow
management enables legal and IT staff to instantaneously create a "golden
copy," produce a .pst or .zip file, and safely secure this documentary
evidence. In addition to powerful search features, the IS1200-ECS
incorporates search auditing to deliver a record of the searches themselves
to the legal and IT staff while ensuring that the gathered information is
saved for the required retention period. Precautionary measures such as
this help demonstrate robust corporate governance for shareholders,
auditors, and insurers.
"Facing the strict e-discovery requirements of the revised FRCP as well as
heightened corporate governance and compliance expectations, corporations
are looking for new approaches to improve productivity and cut costs while
employing best practices," noted Tom Thimot, Chief Operating Officer of
Kazeon. "As Kazeon continues to execute on its Search the Enterprise™
vision for automating, managing, and securing documents during the
e-discovery process, Kazeon is empowering organizations faced with the
costly and complex demands of litigation and investigations to google their
enterprise the same way they google the internet."
