SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 21, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) and the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) today announced an alliance aimed at collaborating on educational and technical programs about Fibre Channel technology.
The two organizations have created a joint working group that will share and market the latest advancements on Fibre Channel technology, such as port virtualization; fabric application APIs; inter-fabric routing; and security enhancements. This collaboration will include the development of educational materials, events, and roadmaps for storage manufacturers, system integrators, developers, industry professionals, and end users.
"As the FCIA continues to seek new ways to deliver increasing value to the industry, it only seems natural to formalize an alliance with SNIA," said Skip Jones, Chairman of FCIA. "Our collaborative work will benefit both organizations as it will provide the most effective way to educate and market to thousands of users within the storage networking arena."
This alliance will complement the SNIA's development and delivery of industry standards, such as the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) and the eXensible Access Method (XAM) that help deliver more powerful end-user solutions. The transport protocols such as Fibre Channel (FC) and Internet Protocol (IP) play a critical role in helping end users truly realize the benefits of these standards.
"The SNIA recognizes Fibre Channel as a mature technology with a robust roadmap of enhancements that will extend the application base of Storage Area Networks, and deliver high performance, investment protection, and value to the enterprise user," said Dave Dale, Chair of the Strategic Alliances Committee at the SNIA. "This alliance is an extension of our organization's goal to be a primary source of education and vendor neutral information about Storage Networking solutions, continuing our drive to ensure that storage networks are efficient, complete, and trusted solutions for the IT community."
