Today Government Debt Management at Danmarks Nationalbank releases "Danish Government Borrowing and Debt 2006". "Highlights of Government Debt Policy", covering selected topics from this year's publication, has been enclosed. The publication is available at Danmarks Nationalbank's website, www.nationalbanken.dk under Publications. The publication describes the development in government borrowing and debt over the preceding year, as well as risk management in relation to government debt. In 2006, Danish central-government debt fell by DKK 90 billion to DKK 328 billion, equivalent to 20 per cent of GDP or around DKK 60,000 per capita. In 2006, interest costs totalled DKK 17.3 billion, down by DKK 3.4 billion from 2005. The issuance policy as from 2007 will be adjusted to match the lower debt and borrowing requirement, while ensuring the liquidity of the government securities. Government borrowing will primarily be concentrated in 10-year domestic government bonds. For further information on government borrowing and debt, please contact Ove Sten Jensen on telephone +45 3363 6102, or send an e-mail to governmentdebt@nationalbanken.dk.
