Greenwich Workshop to Offer Fine Art Limited Edition Prints of
Record-Breaking Paintings in 2007
SEYMOUR, Conn., March 9, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Prices for three of The Greenwich Workshop Inc.'s leading artists soared above pre-sale estimates at The Autry Center's Museum of the American West's Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale. Howard Terpning, Mian Situ and Morgan Weistling were among the 72 artists who participated in the show, the country's foremost exhibition and sale of contemporary Western art.

Howard Terpning's The Shaman and His Magic Feathers sold for $1.31 million (against a reserve of $720,000); the fourth time a Terpning has sold for more than $1 million. The painting also won the exhibition's coveted Thomas Moran Memorial Award for Painting. The Greenwich Workshop's suggested retail of Terpning's Fine Art Canvases (giclee) runs between $650-$2,950. On the secondary market, prices for certain works can range from $5,000-$17,500. Terpning is one of the most lauded artists in Western Art and has won countless awards from the Cowboy Artists of America and the National Academy of Western Art's Prix de West.
Mian Situ's Ten Miles in One Day, Victory Camp, Utah, April 28, 1869 sold for $251,200 (against a reserve of $100,000); a record-breaking price for the artist. The Greenwich Workshop's suggested retail of Fine Art Canvases (giclee) is $650-$4,500. The renowned artist has been hailed as the leading chronicler of the Chinese immigrant experience in 19th Century California by The Los Angeles Times. He, too, is a multi-award winner -- including the Patron's Choice award five of the past six years at the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage show. Other honors include Best of Show at the Carmel Art Festival and the Artist's Choice Award for Painting at the California Art Club's 90th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition.
Morgan Weistling's The Quilting Bee, 19th Century Americana sold for $162,600 (against a reserve of $75,000), more than twice Weistling's record price, and won both the David P. Usher Patrons' Choice Award and the Artists' Choice Award. The Greenwich Workshop's suggested retail of Fine Art Canvases (giclee) is $650-$1,500. Weistling has taught at the Scottsdale Artist School. Previous honors include the 2000 Patron's Choice Award, the 2002 Trustees Purchase Award at The Autry Museum, and the 2001 Prix de West Purchase Award at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
