Mortsel, Belgium / Brentford, United Kingdom - April 3, 2007 - 16:00 CET
Agfa HealthCare announces today that it is launching ORBIS(TM), its innovative and comprehensive hospital-wide clinical and administrative Information System in the United Kingdom. Displayed for the first time in the UK, at the Healthcare Computing 2007 in Harrogate, ORBIS has been designed to provide hospitals and healthcare facilities with an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) solution, which includes scheduling activity management and communication software. As part of its comprehensive offering, ORBIS also includes Prescription and Care modules, providing a care record and electronic prescription functionality that covers laboratory, radiology and medication requirements.
Agfa HealthCare's ORBIS has already successfully been deployed in over 750 institutions across continental Europe with more than 450,000 daily users. Thanks to its patient centered workflow, ORBIS facilitates the administrative tasks of both medical and nursing staff. Its meta data tools and object oriented code build-up enable the optimization of the institutional workflow. With this solution, Agfa HealthCare offers users the possibility of having an integrated EPR that provides an all-encompassing view of clinical as well as administrative information processes.
All-in-all, ORBIS addresses the needs of the entire healthcare enterprise, including Registration, Scheduling, Order Management, Results Reporting and Clinical Documentation. The new suite of solutions includes ancillary clinical disciplines such as Radiology, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Therapy Services, Nursing Management and Critical Care. Specialized solutions within ORBIS address Surgery Suite Management, Critical Care Unit management, Skilled Nursing Facility, Workflow and Logistics.
The single database structure in ORBIS allows users to update and consolidate patient information in real-time, allowing for informed decision making and more streamlined patient care. "Agfa HealthCare is presenting ORBIS and IMPAX(TM) RIS/PACS solutions as entry points to different but integral parts of the healthcare range. Hospitals and clinics will benefit from these solutions", states Adrian Stevens, Director, Agfa HealthCare UK. "Expanding Agfa HealthCare's IT offering across the health enterprise enables much faster and easier data transfer and processing so that the productivity of all teams within the hospital environment can improve dramatically."

About ORBIS
ORBIS enables the enhancement of the quality of patient care and provides fast and complete availability of patients' histories, including all images and data. Accurate real-time patient data and histories are made available to authorized nursing, technical and medical staff. The modular design of ORBIS allows for a non-disruptive implementation at the pace of each individual institution. Over 20 percent of the software developers of ORBIS have a clinical background. This enables Agfa HealthCare to deliver a solution that is tailored to the medical processes.
In total, almost 1,000 dedicated ORBIS staff at Agfa HealthCare develop innovating ideas into state-of-the-art solutions and services which help solving the major challenges in today's healthcare environment:
- to reduce cost
- to increase productivity
- to improve the delivery of care
Today, over 750 customers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium and Italy have Agfa HealthCare's ORBIS installed in their facility totaling over 450,000 users. Preparations for expansion in other geographies are ongoing.
