Buffalo Again Named No. 1 in the Consumer NAS Market for Two Consecutive Years

This Time It's In-Stat That Puts Buffalo in the Top Position for Consistently Providing Consumers With Powerful Yet Easy and Affordable NAS Solutions

AUSTIN, Texas, April 9, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development, and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage, multimedia, and memory solutions today announced that it has lead the consumer NAS (Network Attached Storage) market for two consecutive years, according to a recent report by In-Stat entitled: "Consumer Network Storage: Heavy Hitters Enter Market". Buffalo reigned in 2005 with 21.6% market share and again in 2006 with 18.3% market share.

"The consumer NAS market is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. Increasing amounts of digital files are downloaded by the minute to be stored and shared. It is an honor to be in the front position of such a growing industry," stated Morikazu Sano, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Buffalo Technology. "For over 25 years, In-Stat has been known as a leading and respected market research company. For such a company to state that Buffalo has been the number one market leader for two years in a row is a testament to our engineering expertise and our focus on providing consumers with affordable solutions that complement their digital lifestyle."

According to the report, the worldwide consumer NAS market is expected to see healthy growth from 2006 to 2011. This is due in part to the rising consumer demand for more network storage capacity.

"Consumers are moving beyond storing a digital photo here and there on their hard drive to storing vast amounts of photos, videos, music, etc. This puts them virtually in a state of digital gridlock," said Joyce Putscher, Principal Analyst, Residential Connectivity (Home Networking, Digital Home) at In-Stat. "Our research indicates that consumers are increasingly turning to network storage devices to not only free-up hard drive space and protect precious digital content, but to also easily and simultaneously access and share that content. With its line of high-capacity, easy-to-use and affordable NAS devices, Buffalo is in an excellent position to capitalize on this growing market need and continue as leader in this market."

Buffalo's award-winning line of consumer-focused NAS devices include the newly released LinkStation Live and TeraStation Live, which allows consumers to instantly store, access, backup and share multimedia and other files from any computer on their home. Both solutions offer an iTunes(tm) server, which allows iTunes 7 software to access music stored on the devices. The products also now include the ability to store photos and videos directly from a digital camera. Both the LinkStation Live and TeraStation Live are designed to DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) guidelines so customers can access videos, photos or music stored on them and play it back on any device designed to DLNA guidelines in the home. Both products also offer ultra fast transfer rates of up to 35MB/s, which mirrors the speed of a USB hard drive. For even better performance, the products also include a 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Port and Gigabit Jumbo Frame Support. Both devices have two USB 2.0 ports that can accommodate additional external USB hard drives for expanded networked storage or as backup targets.

The TeraStation Live includes four operational modes: RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 and RAID 10 for increased performance with fault tolerance by spreading data across the four separate drives with uniformity to allow simple data recovery in the event of drive failure.

The LinkStation Live is available in capacities of 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 750GB. The TeraStation Live is available in capacities of 1TB and 2TB. All of Buffalo's NAS devices are Windows and Macintosh compatible and feature Memeo(tm) AutoBackup(tm) software for additional data protection.
