HOUSTON, May 30, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- SYSCO Corporation (NYSE:SYY), North America's largest foodservice marketer and distributor, announced today that Sandra G. Carson has been named assistant vice president, safety and crisis management. Mrs. Carson currently is senior director, occupational health, safety and claims. She will assume her new role July 1, 2007.
Mrs. Carson, 44, began her SYSCO career in 1995 as manager of health services at the corporation's distribution operation in Houston. She was promoted to senior manager, health and safety in 1997, director of health and safety in 1999 and director of human resources in 2001. In 2003, she transferred to the corporate office as director of occupational risk management and in 2005, progressed to her current position. Prior to becoming associated with SYSCO, she was employed in managerial positions in other foodservice industry organizations. She also served as an EMT/Paramedic for five years and an emergency room nurse for two years after receiving a nursing degree from Amarillo College in 1988. A registered nurse, she is also a certified occupational and environmental health and safety professional. Mrs. Carson is a member of Women's Foodservice Forum and various other health and safety organizations. She currently serves on SYSCO's Operations Council and has been since 2003.
Mrs. Carson is a native of Borger, TX and was raised in Sanford, TX. She and her husband, Chip, have three daughters and two sons and reside in Houston.
