Fire Department and SDG&E Demonstrate Danger of Halogen Floor Lamps

MEDIA ADVISORY, June 14, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) --

WHAT: The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) Friday will
demonstrate how torchiere-style halogen floor lamps pose
a significant fire danger because of the extreme
temperatures of halogen bulbs. Halogen bulbs can reach
            1,200 degrees Fahrenheit.

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will announce scheduled
June and July neighborhood lighting-exchange locations for
replacing these lamps at no cost with a torchiere-style
lamp that uses compact fluorescent bulbs. The compact
fluorescent bulbs heat to only 100 degrees Fahrenheit and
            use 75 percent less energy.

            SDG&E's neighborhood lighting-exchange events allow
customers to exchange up to five 75-watt or higher
incandescent light bulbs and/or two halogen floor lamps
for new, energy-efficient models at no cost. The exchange
events are held in communities across San Diego County
several times each month, including this Saturday's
exchange from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Heights Urban
            Village, 3795 Fairmount Ave.
