Smart Telecom to Be First to Offer Advanced Mobile Broadband and Multimedia Services in Indonesia

COSTA MESA, Calif., Sept. 3, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) today congratulated Smart Telecom on the launch of its state-of-the-art CDMA2000(r) network in Indonesia to provide full mobility communication services nationwide using the 1900 MHz frequency band. The CDG also commends Smart Telecom on plans to upgrade its network to CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A (Rev. A) by the end of 2007. Smart Telecom will be the first Indonesian operator to offer advanced mobile broadband services using the very latest in mobile broadband technology.

"The CDG applauds Smart Telecom for its plans to introduce Indonesia's consumers and businesses to the benefits of mobile telephony, SMS, and broadband data services," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "CDMA2000 offers operators a significant time-to-market advantage for 3G services, including high-performance voice, multimedia and broadband data services for both consumer and enterprise customers."

CDMA is experiencing overall rapid growth in Indonesia, with well over 10 million subscribers and six operators across the 450, 800 and 1900 MHz bands. With Rev. A, consumers can listen to and share high-quality stereophonic music; capture and share user generated content (UGC) such as high-resolution photography and personal videos; and watch real-time television, music videos and made-for-mobile movies-with affordable and easy-to-understand tariff plans. Rev. A also supports the multicasting of time-sensitive information and multimedia content, as well as delay-sensitive services such as voice over IP (VoIP), Push-to-Talk (PTT), Push-to-Multimedia (PTM), social multimedia networking, and rich 3D gaming with multiple players.

"We are very excited about the launch of our CDMA2000 network and being able to extend the technology's tremendous value to our subscribers," said AR Martirez, CEO of Smart Telecom. "In addition, we look forward to enabling our customers to take full advantage of CDMA technology's superior capacity, speed and efficiency that translates to value for money, good coverage and excellent quality for both voice and data they will come to rely upon."
