Amsterdam - Net Insight, TeliaSonera International Carrier and Astrodesign, team up at the IBC2007 show to demonstrate the benefits of a solution to broadcast uncompressed 4K video (6 Gbps streams) more than 1500 km over a switched optical network.
The demo network consists of Net Insight's high-capacity Nimbra switches in TeliaSonera's European media network and Astrodesign's super high-resolution 4K2K LCD displays. The video feed, corresponding to four uncompressed HD-SDI streams is transported over STM-64 links between Stockholm and Amsterdam, over 1500 km.
On site in Amsterdam, visitors will be able to experience the extraordinary picture quality of 4K video diplayed on super-high resolution displays. The video source is placed in Stockholm and the feed is transported over TeliaSonera's media network, using Nimbra 680 high capacity switches.
The video feed from Stockholm is multicasted and the demonstration can be viewed both at the Net Insight and Astrodesign booths. The demonstration is an example of that high-capacity networks already today, efficiently can broadcast uncompressed super-high quality video.
Ultra-high definition 4K technology is in its early development cycle, deployed in a limited way to e.g. digital cinema markets. However, 4K is going to assume greater importance and a more widespread commercial deployment very soon fueled by the extraordinary high-quality viewing experience.
4K is a quantum leap beyond current HDTV, and this demonstration at IBC2007 shows how to build efficient networks today, that can scale up and manage also new capacity demanding real-time video services such as 4K high-resolution video.
Net Insight's Nimbra platform is a complete range of multi-service transport equipment for broadcast networks. It transports audio and video at any rate from 2 Mbps compressed up to 1,5 Gbps uncompressed HDTV and even beyond as now demonstrated. It supports all broadcast transport interfaces, such as Ethernet, ASI, HD/SD SDI and AES/EBU. The Nimbra solution increases network bandwidth efficiency without sacrificing quality of service (QoS).
