ATLANTA, Sept. 24, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Advanced Control Systems (ACS), a leading global provider of smart grid solutions to the electric power industry, announced that it has delivered six Connex 30 substation manager upgrades for legacy Systems Northwest/Hathaway RTUs.
"ACS offered us the ability to leverage installed I/O wiring and terminations with state- of-the-art communications infrastructure to keep costs down," said Bill Ledwick, Detroit Edison senior engineer. "The ACS Connex 30 is providing a reliable solution for our substation integration needs."
Following a less than 90-minute installation of the ACS Connex 30 systems, DTE deployed ACS' Connex/NTU Explorer configuration software to precisely replicate the original substation database and minimize master system changes.
In the past five years ACS has delivered over 300 upgrade systems for RTU's from Systems Northwest/Hathaway, L&N, L&G TeleGyr, Moore Systems, Harris, ILEX, QEI, and Ferranti. Leading investor owned utilities that have deployed ACS substation upgrades include, among others, Detroit Edison, Nova Scotia Power, El Paso Electric, Oklahoma Gas & Electric, NSTAR, and Nevada Power.
According to Clint Cowan, ACS business unit manager for substation integration, "The ACS approach saves utilities time and money in modernizing installed obsolete RTUs at a minimum downtime for the respective substations."
"Our approach frees up utility engineering resources to pursue additional reliability and smart grid automation programs," said ACS president David Moore. "We are pleased to provide Detroit Edison our Connex 30 upgrade platforms. ACS staffs expert substation engineers and offers the right solutions to meet the continued strong demand we expect for our Systems Northwest/Hathaway replacement strategy."
