EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Oct. 18, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) today honored 56 Platinum Source Preferred Awardees and presented 2006 Supplier of the Year awards to 10 U.S. companies that have consistently delivered top quality parts and services. The awards were presented at a suppliers' luncheon in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
The honored companies, selected from more than 1,212 suppliers, provide Northrop Grumman's Integrated Systems sector with products ranging from parts and components used in the manufacturing of advanced aircraft systems to services such as facilities maintenance. The 10 companies receiving Supplier of the Year awards represent all parts of the country, including Southern California, Idaho, Texas, and Florida.
"Our supplier base is one of the strongest in the industry, and we attribute a significant portion of our success to their commitment as strategic partners," said Scott J. Seymour, Northrop Grumman corporate vice president and president of the Integrated Systems sector. "Compared to a few years ago, we have fewer suppliers because of a strategic sourcing initiative that connects us to our suppliers' capabilities, investments, capacities and more. This interaction has improved their efficiency and helps them provide us with quality parts and services faster, which in turn makes us a more cost-effective business."
This year's awards featured 21 suppliers returning as Platinum Source Preferred suppliers and two companies receiving back-to-back Supplier of the Year awards. Four of the 10 winning suppliers are small businesses, and one is a certified small disadvantaged business as recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Initiated in 2004, the Supplier of the Year program is an outgrowth of the company's strategic sourcing initiative to build stronger long-term business relationships. Under this initiative, every supplier is graded quarterly on parameters such as quality, on-time delivery, customer satisfaction and participation in affordability initiatives. To be considered for a Supplier of the Year award, a company must demonstrate consistently superior performance in delivering products and services.
Supplier of the Year awards were presented by the following commodity and strategic sourcing teams inside Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems: Avionics, Composites & Raw Materials, Equipment, Indirect, Machined Parts, Purchased Parts, Sheet Metal, and Standard Parts & Electrical.
Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide.
