Absoft Announces New Pro Fortran Compiler Technology for Windows Targeting AMD64 Multi-Core Processors

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Nov. 14, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Absoft(r) Corporation, a leading developer of compilers, debuggers and software development tools for high performance computing, today announced the immediate availability of its new Pro Fortran v10.1 for Windows which includes tuning for the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron(tm). Absoft and AMD are co-operating to advance compiler technology designed to simplify migration to, and increase performance on, new systems based on quad-core technology from AMD (NYSE:AMD).

Absoft's new Pro Fortran for Windows is the second product family from Absoft targeted toward AMD's multi-processor, multi-core systems. In addition to new multi-core support, auto-parallelization and auto vectorization, the new Absoft Pro Fortran v10.1 includes the first commercial Fortran IDE for Windows designed to simplify Fortran/C development. Pricing starts at $299.

"We are very impressed with the excellent performance capabilities and low energy footprint of the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors and our new v10.1 technology is showing significant performance gains over previous releases," said Wood Lotz, President of Absoft. "Absoft Fortran was recently verified by an independent party as the performance leader on AMD Opteron processor-based Windows Vista systems and Absoft remains committed to providing customers with the highest performance applications on AMD processor-based systems and the most complete, easiest-to-use Fortran development environment available."

Pro Fortran v10.1 includes both 32-bit and 64-bit compilers, which are fully source compatible with previous versions so performance improvements, or migration to multi-core systems, can typically be accomplished with a simple recompile. Continued v10.1 enhancements for Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors will be available from Absoft via Service Packs to registered v10.1 customers at no charge.

"With focus on innovative solutions to help developers navigate the dynamics of multi-core processor technology, AMD is working with Absoft to advance system performance and simplify code migration to our new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors," said Margaret Lewis, director, commercial solutions, AMD. "By enabling development tools like compilers and performance libraries to generate multi-threaded code with superior performance, we are empowering the community of Windows developers who are using Fortran to tap into the multi-threading capabilities of AMD's native quad-core technology."

The Fortran IDE included with Absoft Pro Fortran suite simplifies code development and is the first graphical IDE designed specifically for Fortran/C development on Windows. Included is everything necessary to build and run multi-threaded applications, including: programmer's editor, compiler, graphical debugger, graphical integrated development environment, math libraries and graphics -- nothing else to buy or learn.

The Absoft IDE will be included on all Pro Fortran v10.1 products for Windows, Linux and Mac. Providing the same functionality, look and feel on all systems makes it especially well suited for mixed platform development. In addition to Absoft products, the IDE supports select third party software including compilers from Apple, GNU and Microsoft, and VNI's IMSL numerical libraries.
