The Greenwich Workshop Announces Winners of the First Annual SmallWorks North America Exhibition and Competition

Only Juried Original Miniature Show On the East Coast an Extraordinary Success

FAIRFIELD, Conn., Nov. 29, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Working from the submissions of more than 800 artists, The Greenwich Workshop and its panel of judges and online voters have chosen the winners of the first annual SmallWorks(tm) North America Exhibition and Competition, the first and only annual juried exhibition of original miniatures on the East Coast. SmallWorks(tm) is sponsored by The Greenwich Workshop(r), Inc., North America's leading publisher of Fine Art Limited Editions, in conjunction with The Greenwich Workshop Gallery. The exhibition and sale continues through December 31 at The Greenwich Workshop Gallery, 1657 Post Road in Fairfield, CT, and all artwork can also be viewed and purchased online at www.smallworksna.com.

The artists' awards and prizes were determined prior to the opening of SmallWorks(tm) North America. Award winning artworks were chosen through a combination of online voting by collectors and the recommendations of a panel of experienced judges. The Gallery Director's Award and Publisher's Award are merit awards determined by Chris Usher and Greenwich Workshop Publisher, Scott Usher.

With over 200 people attending Saturday evening, November 24, the gallery kicked off the exhibition and sale with a festive artist reception and highlighted the night by announcing the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal winners and presenting both the Director's and Publisher's Awards. "The success of the first SmallWorks -- both as a juried exhibition of some of the best contemporary miniatures available today and as an exhibition and sale -- dictates that we make this an annual event, which was always our goal," says Chris Usher, Director of The Greenwich Workshop Gallery. "Both the artist and the collector communities have validated the need for a show of this caliber."

The Greenwich Workshop, Inc. and The Greenwich Workshop Gallery would like to extend congratulations to the following artists for their winning entries:

 * Ezra Tucker, At Lands End, GOLD MEDAL
 * Joseph Lorusso, Opera Glasses II, SILVER MEDAL
 * HuiHan Liu, The Land Of Snows, BRONZE MEDAL
 * Ann McMillan, Strawberries, DIRECTOR'S AWARD
 * Pamela Carroll, Off Spring, PUBLISHER'S AWARD

Although only 5 artists collectively took home the $20,000 prize money, 35 additional artists are being given the opportunity to have their works published as limited edition prints. Via the Internet, collectors were asked to provide their top five selections of the 230 originals from the show, and the artists selected through that process were invited to participate in The Greenwich Workshop's Spring 2008 SmallWorks Fine Art Limited Edition Catalogue. "We congratulate everyone who participated in SmallWorks," said Scott Usher, Publisher and President of The Greenwich Workshop. "We are committed to the goal of creating market options for talented young artists, both for their original work and for their limited edition prints."
