SPOT -- The World's First Satellite Messenger -- Makes Its Mark With 2007 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award

Satellite-Based Personal Safety Device With GPS to be Featured At the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show

MILPITAS, Calif., Dec. 13, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- SPOT Inc., designer and distributor of the SPOT(tm) Satellite Messenger, has announced that it has been awarded the Consumer Electronics Association's (CEA(r)) 2008 Innovations Design and Engineering Award. The award, judged and selected annually by a panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and journalists, was given to SPOT in the category of Personal Electronics. Previous honorees in other categories include the Sony Playstation(r)3 and Intel's(r) Dual Core(tm) processor.

"The award gives added credibility to SPOT's unique and innovative place in the world of personal safety and security," said Darren Bassel, Director of Consumer Marketing for SPOT Inc. "SPOT's feature set delivers easy-to-use peace of mind worldwide."

Small, rugged and simple to use, the SPOT Satellite Messenger is a device designed to improve personal safety for the millions of people who spend time in the outdoors -- whether for recreation, work or daily life. With the push of a button, SPOT can transmit a user's GPS location and message to a 9-1-1 emergency call center in times of need, or to friends, family or co-workers to request help, track their location, or just keep in touch. Because SPOT sends a user's GPS location over a commercial satellite network, SPOT works in much of the world regardless of cellular coverage. Viewing messages and locations is easy using the SPOT web service with included Google Maps(tm) technology.

The innovative SPOT messenger was a collaborative design and production effort by SPOT, Russ Allen Designs, Axonn, LLC., a leading provider of satellite tracking devices, HS Design, Inc., an award-winning product development firm, and ATP, a leading global electronics manufacturer.

"SPOT is designed to save lives and connect people -- it had to be both easy to use in a crisis and friendly for everyday use," added Mr. Bassel. "The final design is as simple as a four button remote control, and its orange color is universally recognized for both safety and friendliness."

As an award recipient, SPOT will be featured in the Innovations Showcase booth at the Sands Convention Center at the annual Consumer Electronics Show, January 7-10, in Las Vegas. SPOT Inc. will also be featuring the unit at its CES booth, # 71739, also at the Sands.
