NEW YORK, Jan. 9, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- NBC News will debut today a new "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" experience online, available at www.nightly.msnbc.com. The redesigned site, which will be officially unveiled today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, gives the growing "Nightly News" online audience an immersive and visually compelling TV-like viewing experience, as well as an enhanced extension of the "Nightly News" brand online.
NBC Universal is the official broadcast partner of the world's largest consumer electronics show. "Nightly News" will broadcast live at 3:30 p.m. (PT) / 6:30 p.m. (ET) from the NBC Universal exhibit (Central Hall, Booth #12533) on the CES show floor. Anchor Brian Williams will provide reporters with a demonstration of the new online experience immediately following the broadcast.
The new "Nightly News" site, powered by msnbc.com's recently released video player, delivers a large, high-quality video stream, nearly instantaneous video start, and a full screen viewing mode option. Consumers can now easily watch and discover news stories by using the new menu-style navigation tools in order to browse and shift seamlessly between each video segment.
Viewers can find a wealth of material that complements the reports seen on the broadcast edition of "Nightly News," including extended interviews, additional story angles, and web exclusives -- new stories that you can only find online.
"NBC News is a huge news organization -- we traditionally air just a small fraction of the news we gather and report across this country and around the world each day. No more -- this expansion means much more material available to the global audience we serve," said Brian Williams, Anchor and Managing Editor of "Nightly News." "The long reach of NBC News is now, more than ever, on display on every computer screen. NBC 'Nightly News' is about a whole lot more than our half-hour long newscast each night."
"The strength of 'Nightly News' is in its world-class reporting and unmatched video content," said Charlie Tillinghast, President of msnbc.com. "We've created an entirely new online platform to showcase these stories, enable consumers to easily find their favorite content, and deliver a seamless brand experience."
"The 'Nightly News' broadcast has been the gold standard of evening broadcasts for decades," said Alex Wallace, Executive Producer of "Nightly News." "Now, with this enhanced website we can extend our reach and delivery -- meaning, more video online, more complementary material to the broadcast, more Internet-only exclusives and more engagement with our viewers. It's 'Nightly News' when you want -- putting our viewers and online users in the Director's chair."
"Nightly is the first evening newscast to truly embrace the web as something more than just a promotional vehicle," said Randy Stearns, East Coast Deputy Editor of msnbc.com. "This new site simply makes it possible for them to do what they do best -- video journalism."
"Nightly News with Brian Williams" is offered on multiple digital platforms to meet consumers' rapidly growing demand for the broadcast online. The site continued its strong year-over-year performance, with on-demand video streams up an impressive 40% and the "Nightly News" section front experiencing a 14% growth in page views.
