MANCHESTER, NH--(Marketwire - January 24, 2008) - Newforma, a software company addressing the
project information management (PIM) needs of the design and building
industry, announced today that it has surpassed 13,000 licensed users as a
result of strong fourth quarter sales of Newforma Project Center software.
Newforma's solution is now licensed for use in more than 200 offices
worldwide, including leading firms in Canada, the United Kingdom,
Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. To date, Newforma Project Center has
been used to index and search more than 24,000 active and archived projects
in order to help architects and engineers find, share and re-use project
information.
Newforma Chief Executive Officer Ian Howell believes that these milestones
reflect the tremendous value being brought to firms by Newforma Project
Center. "What is really exciting," Howell said, "is that every day we hear
stories from our customers about how, thanks to the Newforma solution, they
were able to find a critical piece of information which would otherwise
still be buried in an old email trail or misfiled somewhere on the
company's central file server. Or they'll tell us how a user was able to
retrieve and re-use information from a prior project to avoid re-inventing
the wheel."
Senior Associate/IT Director Frank Buono, of the Denver-based firm Barker
Rinker Seacat Architecture, implemented Newforma Project Center at his firm
in 2007. His remarks typify the positive response to Newforma from
customers across the industry. "The Newforma Email function probably cuts
50 percent of the time spent filing emails in project folders," Buono said.
"With Newforma Info Exchange, it's no longer an IT headache to set up an
FTP site. Plus, Newforma's was the easiest enterprise system I've ever
deployed. We've implemented several major, enterprise-wide packages in the
past 12 months. The Newforma solution is the only one that had people up
and running in 48 hours."
Barker Rinker Seacat has licensed the complete Newforma Project Center
solution for all members of the firm. "Some scoff at the per-user cost,"
Buono said, "but when I weigh it against productivity per employee, it
delivers more than enough bang for the buck to justify the investment.
Newforma costs far less on an annual basis than developing and maintaining
our own solution, whether we would use Microsoft SharePoint® or some other
technology."
Newforma CEO Howell also cited two key areas that illustrate the critical
need for practical and reliable project information management: the need to
create audit trails in case of future litigation, and the need to document
information in the course of obtaining approvals such as LEED
certification. Howell said, "With building and infrastructure projects
becoming increasingly complex, project delivery deadlines becoming more
compressed and with ever-more pressing requirements to track project
information, firms need a PIM solution that complements existing work
processes, has zero impact on existing IT infrastructure and can be
assimilated very rapidly by everyone involved in projects across the firm."
