Konecranes wins repeat order for RTGs in Mexico In January 2008, Konecranes received an order for six rubber tired gantry (RTG) cranes from SSA Marine. The cranes are for their Mexican cargo terminal SSA Mexico - Manzanillo in Colima. The cranes will be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2008. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order. There are 18 Konecranes RTGs in the Manzanillo port; the first cranes were installed at the end of 1990s. The port of Manzanillo is the largest port in Mexico and a prime port of entry to the country, with an annual capacity of 1.41 million TEUs. Because of increased container traffic, the customer is adding new equipment to their port. “Our cooperation with Konecranes has run very smoothly,” says Troy Hatherell, General Manager at SSA Mexico. “The RTGs ordered are high-efficiency cranes with modern technology. With these new cranes we are looking to increase productivity at our port”. “We are very pleased to win this order”,” says Tuomas Saastamoinen, Marketing and Sales Director, Port Sales at Konecranes. “There is increasing potential for RTGs in Central and South America and in the Caribbean. Konecranes has stepped up its activities in these areas and this recent order is one result of these efforts.” The six RTGs ordered will be used to provide flexible, high capacity container handling. The 16-wheel RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes and can stack one over six containers high and six wide plus a truck lane.
