Infinera Extends Just-in-TAM Program to 40 Gig Module

Service Providers Can Now Turn Up 40G Services Network-Wide in Record Time


SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 24, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Infinera (Nasdaq:INFN) has extended its innovative Just-in-TAM(tm) program to the 40 Gigabit Tributary Adapter Module (TAM), broadening the range of services that Infinera customers can now deliver to their customers in ten days or less.

TAM modules slot into Infinera line cards at the endpoints of a circuit in an Infinera network. Installation of the TAMs, combined with software configuration of the circuit through the network, enables very fast turn-up of circuits and services in an Infinera network. The Just-in-TAM program, introduced last year, is an Infinera commitment to ship most TAM modules anywhere in the world within ten days of receipt of customer order. This enables record turn-up time for most services.

Infinera's 40 Gb/s TAM, which has been available since last year, uses innovative Infinera technology known as Digital Virtual Concatenation (DVC) to map a 40 Gb/s service over four 10 Gb/s wavelengths, enabling 40 Gb/s services to be offered over any fiber plant capable of supporting 10 Gb/s services today. Super-wavelength services enabled by DVC offer advantages in terms of speed and cost-effectiveness of deployment for many services providers.

The speed and flexibility of the Infinera system is enabled by Infinera's Bandwidth Virtualization architecture, which puts a minimum of 100 Gb/s of capacity in the network initially and is scalable to 800 Gb/s or more.
