Mercy Medical Center Standardizes on Infoblox Appliances for DNS/DHCP and Other Core Network Services

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - March 31, 2008) - Infoblox Inc., today announced that
Maryland's Mercy Medical Center, rated one of the top medical facilities in
the United States, has selected and deployed Infoblox appliances to deliver
internal and external domain name resolution (DNS), IP address assignment
and management (DHCP/IPAM), as well as other core network services.
Mercy Medical Center is a full service hospital delivering a comprehensive
range of health services including internal medicine, obstetrics, urology,
pediatrics, cardiology, rehabilitative care and emergency medicine. With
more than 600 physicians and 2600 employees, the Mercy Medical Center
depends on its IT network to effectively serve its patients in these
practices. Core network services like DNS and DHCP are essential to the
daily operation of the Mercy Hospital network and applications like Voice
over IP (VoIP), which requires highly reliable and easily tracked IP
address assignment services.
In fact, a planned VoIP implementation -- expected to reach 3,000 handsets
by 2010 -- is what prompted the Mercy Medical IT team to evaluate its
previous core network services systems: Microsoft Active Directory servers
in conjunction with Excel spreadsheets to manage IP addresses, which were
too cumbersome to manage, insecure and often unreliable.
After evaluating several competing products, Mercy Medical Center
standardized on Infoblox appliances to deliver core network services for
the hospital's entire IP network and applications, including its new VoIP
application. The Infoblox core network services infrastructure will
provide the scalable and robust platform to support the hospital's new
18-story patient care tower expected to open in 2010.
"The Infoblox product helped us stabilize, simplify and strengthen our core
network services infrastructure," commented Mark Rein, senior director of
Information Technology, Mercy Medical Center. "Now, instead of spinning
cycles managing multiple domain controllers and ad-hoc systems, my team can
focus more on the tough things like the clinical applications themselves.
More importantly, with Infoblox, we rest at night trusting it will not go
down." Rein concluded: "And, when our brand new hospital is completed in
2010, the core network services infrastructure is already in place for a
seamless transition."
Infoblox appliances deliver reliable, manageable, scalable, and secure core
network services and are designed for nonstop operation in high-performance
networks. The Mercy Medical Center is using Infoblox appliances running as
high availability pairs dispersed at two data centers in the Baltimore
area. More Infoblox appliances are in a grid serving internal and external
DNS, DHCP and configuration file transfer (TFTP) services.
