ATLANTA, April 1, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Based on customer demand, Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) is expanding its popular food for sale program, EATS, to all flights within the United States of 750 miles or more (approximately one and a half hours or more) beginning April 1. EATS will also be featured on select flights between the United States and beach destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America of 1,550 miles or more (approximately three and one half hours or more).
To complement the popular fruit and cheese plate, Kashi cereal with fresh fruit and cinnamon raisin bagel offered on the EATS menu, Delta introduced new selections from celebrity chef Todd English in March including the following brunch, lunch and dinner offerings:
-- Chicken Parmesan Sandwich: Parmesan breaded chicken breast, marinated mozzarella slices, basil pesto with parsley, and tomato sauce on a rosemary ciabatta roll for $8 each; -- Chicken Bistro Salad: Pulled chicken breast, Earthbound Farm(r) baby spinach leaves, diced bacon, thinly sliced red onion, black beluga lentils with goat cheese crostini, red wine vinaigrette dressing for $8 each; and -- Hummus with Veggies: hummus with marinated chick peas, pita chips spread with olive tapinade complemented by carrot and celery sticks, radish wedges and a pepperoncini pepper for $7 each.
Limited selections from Delta's EATS menu will be offered on flights beginning at 750 miles, and a full menu will be offered on flights of 1,025 miles or more (approximately two hours or more).
Additionally beginning May 1, Delta's EATS menu will feature XXX and Power C flavors of vitaminwater(r) from Glaceau in 20-ounce bottles for $3 each. For ease of payment, Delta customers now can use credit cards for the purchase of any food, beverage, and headsets where offered onboard.
"Offering Delta's customers a menu of quality food through our EATS program is one way we're showing them we value their busy schedules," said Joanne Smith, Delta's senior vice president of In-Flight Service and Global Product. "We know customers frequently have little time to eat when traveling, and we are pleased to offer them many tempting choices when they fly with us."
New beach destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America to offer EATS selections include: Antigua; Barbados; Bonnaire; Liberia, Costa Rica; Cancun, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; St. Thomas; St. Martin; St. Lucia; and San Juan, Puerto Rico (from New York - JFK).
Delta launched its food for purchase menu in September 2007 on coast-to-coast mainline flights between New York John F. Kennedy International Airport and Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle. Today, the EATS menu is available on almost every Delta flight within the 48 contiguous United States of at least one and a half hours. Customers continue to receive complimentary snacks on all flights of more than 250 miles on Delta and Delta Connection carrier flights.
