ATLANTA, April 23, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG) announced today that James S. (Jim) Childress, president and general manager of LXE Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of EMS Technologies, Inc., is retiring from the business. Paul Domorski, EMS's president and chief executive officer, reported that the company had begun a search for Childress's replacement, and that William H. (Bill) Roeder, a 21-year LXE veteran currently serving as senior vice president and deputy general manager, is acting as the division's general manager in the interim period.
Domorski said, "Jim played a key role in developing LXE into a recognized leader in the auto-identification data capture (AIDC) market using wireless rugged mobile computing systems and solutions. He joined LXE in September 2000 as vice president, Business Development, where he was responsible for opening new markets for LXE. Jim was appointed as its president and GM the following year and led the division through a historical expansion in products, markets, revenues and profits. All of us at EMS thank Jim for his contributions and we wish him and his family many years of health and happiness in retirement."
Childress led LXE to seven consecutive years of record revenues and strong growth, and recognition by MobileVillage six straight years for best customer service among mobile hardware vendors. In addition, industry analysis firms, Gartner, Venture Development Corp., AMR Research and Frost & Sullivan, have acknowledged LXE for thought leadership in using advanced auto-identification technologies to achieve supply chain excellence. Childress was also selected by his peers to chair the AIM Global Board of Directors.
Before joining LXE in 2000, Childress was the vice president of EG&G Technical Services and general manager of EG&G's Logistics Division. He joined EG&G in 1998 after a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Major General and Commander of the San Antonio Air Logistics Center.
