WHY: The Port of Houston had some impact on 785,049 jobs
in Texas, with 393,147 jobs related to activity at
Port of Houston terminals, according to a study
released in 2007. Harris County residents represent
58,000 of these jobs. The Port of Houston-Wide Job
Fair is aimed at introducing local residents seeking
employment, as well as others seeking new career
opportunities, to employers who have an immediate need
for employees. There's a rising trend in job openings
across the nation. While this is good news, there are
challenges ahead as the economy shifts to one requiring
more skills and higher education. These are the kinds
of jobs being created right here in Houston. Sponsors
of this job fair provide job seekers with resources
and information to access gainful employment.
