Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Board of Directors Elects New Leadership

Embraces Industry Expectations and Evaluates Success in Approach to Sixth Year

LONDON--(Marketwire - May 21, 2008) - The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), an international specifications setting body, announces the election of a new chairman of the board and two new vice chairs. After a nomination process, the board of directors elected Fred Harrison, Head of Standards at Telefonica Europe, as its new chairman. Mr. Harrison replaced Jari Alvinen of Nokia, who stepped down as chairman after leading the organization from its inception. During Mr. Alvinen's tenure, the organization has grown from its initial membership of 200 companies to its current membership of nearly 400 companies around the globe.

Mr. Harrison has served as chairman of the OMA Board Interoperability Committee since 2003 and vice chair of the board of directors since 2005. "Having worked closely with Mr. Alvinen since establishing the OMA in 2002, I look forward to continuing the leadership of our high quality technical work and furthering our mission to facilitate the global adoption of mobile data services," said Mr. Harrison. "Following an executive summit last year, OMA established several initiatives to bring more focus to our strategic goals of creating high quality, timely and interoperable specifications that meet market requirements. Along with the board of directors, I plan to complete these improvements as well as look for new opportunities to build on OMA's success."

Atul Asthana, Vice President for Global Standards at Research in Motion (RIM), will continue in his third year as OMA's treasurer. Two new vice chairs also join Mr. Harrison and Mr. Asthana in leading the Board of Directors -- Timo Perälä, Head of Services Standardization for Nokia Siemens Networks, and Ileana Leuca, Service Standardization Director for AT&T. The board of directors elected all of these officers unanimously.

As OMA approaches its sixth operational year, the new leadership team and board of directors will engage its wider membership and the industry to ensure that the organization is meeting expectations and market demand for interoperable mobile service enablers. OMA has published 39 Enabler Releases to date and currently has over 100 active specifications in its work program.
